ANDY CAHILL
From Brooklyn New York, artist Andy Cahill comes from a background in animation, his work is inspired by cartoons mixed with psychedelic vibes. His work vibrates uncomfortably and even hypnotizes when looking closely.
Cahill’s layered, prismatic fine lines swell into kaleidoscopic imagery of perverse domesticity. The artist applies a mixture of urethane paint via plastic squeeze bottles, creating a compilation of marks that seem to hover on the canvas. In a flick of Cahill’s wrist, clouds of paint splatter and curl into cartoonish, twisted scenery. Familiar yet strange settings fill each picture plane- a stern figure at a morphing dinner table; a house that grows ears; and a smoker who blows puff out of a shirt sleeve. Menacing characters are consistent in Cahill’s work, exposing the darkness and vulnerability of the male psyche.
Andy Cahill holds an MFA from Chicago Art Institute and a BFA from RISD. Cahill has exhibited in group shows, recently at V1 Gallery in Copenhagen, New York and Geoffrey Young Gallery in Great Barrington, MA. He has also shown around the world including Paris, London and Hong Kong.
Andy Cahill also took part in ‘LUCKY CHARM’ a Group Exhibition of 28 International Artists. Presented by Lisa Boudet in association with Moosey Art. Opening the 4th of November 2021 at Hoxton Arches in London, United Kingdom.
